Covering Interior Water, Nicotine, Smoke, Etc. Stains Before Repainting

Stains must be sealed before painting or they will bleed through the paint.  After cleaning the area, paint over the stain with a white shellac sealer such as B-I-N or  with KILZ® Original or KILZ® Odorless.

Neither of these is latex or water based, so I use a sponge rubber throw-away brushe for spot sealing stains.  If you have large areas consider a sponge roller.  The shellac sealers are alcohol based and dry very quickly, so if I had a large area I might use KILZ, otherwise I'd use B-I-N.
